Diabetes Management Assisted by Telemedicine: Patient Perspectives

Newly published research has reported on a case management approach delivered via computer that allowed 33 older people with diabetes to teleconference with a nurse and dietician, upload blood glucose and blood pressure data, and access educational materials.

Telephone interviews were conducted prior to and after six and 12 months. The authors found their findings illustrated the potential value of telemedicine with elderly patients with diabetes, if supported by primary care providers and including consistent, supportive interactions with knowledgeable diabetes healthcare providers.
