Met Office weather alert scheme reduces COPD hospital admissions

More than 8,000 patients from 189 GP practices across the UK are involved in a scheme to provide cold weather alerts to patients with COPD. The scheme enables people with COPD to take appropriate action and plan ahead to avoid the impact of a cold spell that could lead to a hospital admission. Met Office research claims that hospital admissions for those using the scheme have fallen by 24 per cent, compared to a 3 per cent reduction where there was no involvement.
